Missionaries to Mexico

Over the last several years there has been a significant increase in narco-violence in Monterrey and throughout northern Mexico.  Many of you have asked if we are afraid because of this threat.  In a word, no.  Must we take precautions to minimize our exposure to this threat?  Yes.  But is this violence directed at us?  Not normally.   The question that we ask ourselves is how, as Christians, should we respond in light of this violence?  While thinking about this response, my thoughts were immediately taken to the scene outside of Jerusalem nearly 2000 years ago when a host of angels appeared during the night to a group of shepherds who were watching over their sheep.  The glory of the Lord like the radiance from a thousands stars shone from the angels.  And, this visible presence of incredible holiness caused the shepherds to be terrified beyond belief.  In light of the shepherds fear, the angels responded with words of great comfort, not only to the shepherds, but to all who humble themselves before our great savior.

“Be not afraide and gaze in wonder, I bring you tidings of great joye, that shall be to all the people: That is, that unto you is borne this day in the citie of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord... Glorie be to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men of good will.”

The fear of man pales in comparison to the fear of God. Moreover, every person on their last day with out Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will be confronted by the same terrifying holiness the shepherds experienced, yet without hope.   God has called Tricia and me to share the words of the angels, words that overcome worldly fear; so that the people of Mexico might have hope both now and in the world to come through Christ.  May the Lord of peace also grant to you His peace now and always.
